How it started
I vividly recall the moment my husband and I exchanged a knowing glance and uttered those fateful words, “We need a bigger home.” It was shortly after our oldest son celebrated his first birthday. Nestled in Littleton, CO, our starter home had been the backdrop to countless memories, but as our family grew, so did our need for space and a change of scenery.
Life has taken an unexpected turn since the arrival of our son in 2020. Suddenly, things we hadn’t given much thought to before parenthood were front and center. Our once bustling crossroad now felt too hectic for a toddler’s bike ride, our neighbors’ lack of curb appeal became more noticeable, and the impending closure of a nearby school added to our concerns. And let’s not forget the ever-growing mountain of kid paraphernalia, compounded by our two furry companions – a 130 lb boxer-mastiff and a 55 lb heeler husky.

Changing Perspective
As a native Coloradan with a deep-rooted loyalty to Littleton, I was initially hesitant about venturing further east than I-25. However, my husband, a Minnesota transplant and owner of a home renovation company, had fallen for the charm of SE Aurora while working in the area. And so, with some gentle nudging and a serendipitous drive through the Piney Creek neighborhood, our perspective shifted.
Picture-perfect homes lined the streets, beckoning us with their spacious layouts, mature trees, and a palpable sense of community. Despite my initial resistance, I couldn’t deny the connection I felt to this part of town. It was a moment of realization, and I wasted no time reaching out to JJ to adjust our search parameters.
But navigating the real estate market with a one-year-old in tow? Let’s just say it was a chaotic dance of nap schedules, snack breaks, and impromptu house viewings. Yet, amidst the madness, we persisted. We shuffled our son between showings, enlisted the help of family when needed, and somehow managed to keep our sanity intact.
How it’s going
Two whirlwind months later, we found our forever home and bid farewell to our starter house. As we settled into this new chapter and welcomed our second son in 2022, I reflected on the journey. Through the chaos and stress, we had the unwavering support of JJ and the reassurance that we were in good hands every step of the way.
